Cloud Creatures

There is one thing I miss deeply about living in the Pacific North West: Clouds. I don’t think I’ve been anywhere else in my many travels throughout my life that has clouds like the PNW on a consistent basis. They are these epic formations of fluffy clouds that move quickly over the sky.

I miss just being able to sit in the lunch room at my old work and watch the clouds move over the hills as I ate lunch. GLORIOUS.

Looking In The Clouds

My sister moved to Spokane, WA a year or so ago and I was very fortunate to be able to go visit her and her new beautiful little baby girl right after she was born. This was also just before we made our huge move back to SoCal.

Angle Wing Clouds

I made sure to get a window seat on the plane so I could watch the clouds go by, however I had no idea that the cloud formations I would see were going to be so huge! I had a grand time playing the “what does that cloud look like” game. I must have been feeling a little anxious flying alone because I kept seeing battle scenes, the clouds attacking each other.

Field Of Clouds

It was also a great chance to see the difference between two settings on my camera: Low Key and Beach/Snow. I usually put my camera on Low Key because even though straight out of camera the pictures are incredibly dark when I edit them in Photoshop I am able to get more shadows/depth to the cloud formations easier than using the Auto setting (Which gave me a panic attack when I first stumbled upon it).

I also tried the Beach/Snow setting because I figured the the snow setting would work well with clouds since both are white and seem to wash out really easily in the camera. The snow setting was quite awesome, the pictures were less panic inducing straight out of camera and were not very hard to edit. It took me a little longer to achieve the same type of depth to the clouds as the Low Key setting BUT once I figured it out it was quite easy.

The only thing I need to remember to do is to bring come cleaning wipes for the airplane window. The window was SUPER dirty on the inside and could have used a good cleaning to avoid a good portion of the weird spots in the sky.
